During the holiday season, I met Rachel, the author of one of my fave blogs, Small Notebook. She is a Big D resident and I spent some time with her and her precious daughter, Lane, at a Starbucks. Part of me wanted to treat her like some kind of simple-living guru, and ask her all kind of questions. I decided that would not be best, and would just let the conversation happen.
That was a great tactic. I ended up learning just as much as I would have with tons of prepared questions. I also got some much-needed advice for the moment.
The topic was time management. I was mentioning some commitments I had and some I had recently let go. Rachel said the best words about commitments, “Doug (her hubs) and I are committed to not being committed.”
Sha-ZAM! Those words hit me profoundly. I know they do not sound like much, but no kidding, it was like she knew the insight I needed to hear at the time. I thought about those words during the holidays. I prayed about where to make some changes in my life.
I saw where changes need to be made. So we’re scaling back some more. I am actually looking forward to having fewer things I “must” do. I am also quite grateful to Rachel. She had no idea she was helping me so much. Go check out her blog, it’s fantastic. Thanks, Rachel! Look forward to seeing you again soon.

Oh Laura Leigh, it was so fun visiting with you. I know we'll get together again soon.
In other seasons of life, I really did get much more involved in activities and plans. But right now, I like having the flexibility and free time to meet friends like you for coffee.
Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to visiting with you after your move!
